Treatment and Therapy for Relaps Multiple Sclerosis

What are treatment and therapy for relaps Multiple Sclerosis?

1 . Adrenal corticosteroids .
Corticosteroids are the mainstay of therapy in reducing symptoms of acute relapses of MS. These agents work through immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects, restoration of blood brain barrier and reduces edema. corticosteroids can also improve axonal conduction. Corticosteroid therapy shortens the duration of acute relapse and accelerates recovery. However, corticosteroids have not been able to increase the overall recovery of MS.
If a patient becomes disabled after receiving an acute attack , physicians should consider treatment with intravenous methylprednisolone for three to five days ( or equivalent corticosteroid ) in a dose of 1 g administered intravenously in 100 mL of normal saline for 60 minutes once a day in the morning .

2 . Other treatments.
In patients with MS, physiotherapy should always be performed to improve function and quality of life of drug addiction therapy. Supportive care in the form of counseling, occupational therapy, advice on social, input from nurses, and patient participation in a support group is part of the health care team approach in the management of MS. Patients with MS often tempted to try alternative therapies such as special diets, vitamins, bee stings, or acupuncture. Although definitive evidence of the effectiveness of these treatments is lacking.
